The Montecristo Brillantes has been launched to celebrate the Chinese New Year, marking the Year of the Dragon in 2024. These cigars measure 5 inches in length with a 53 ring gauge, aligning with the recent trend of “chunky robustos,” and bear the factory name Venerables. Montecristo Brillantes is an exclusive, limited edition release that comes in a special box containing 18 Habanos. Each cigar is “Totally handmade with long filler,” crafted from carefully selected wrapper, filler, and binder leaves sourced from the Vuelta Abajo region in Pinar del Río. Each box that’s numbered and only 18,888 boxes made for global distribution. Uncharacteristically for Montecristo, the Brillantes are packaged in boxes featuring a red and gold colour scheme. In Chinese culture, red symbolizes good fortune, while gold accents represent wealth. Additionally, the boxes include an NFC feature that allows consumers to learn more about the cigars and verify their authenticity.
Habanos S.A. introduced the NFC feature in boxes for the Cohiba Siglo de Oro, released last year to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.
This marks the fifth consecutive year that Habanos S.A. has created a cigar for the Chinese lunar calendar:
