Uncle Nearest Whiskey
Uncle Nearest 1856 is a blend of premium aged Whiskey. On the nose, baled hay and pumpkin seeds with subtle notes of ripe stone fruit and caramel corn. Bold and spicy upfront then mellows with sweet caramel and maple, like biting into an oatmeal raisin cookie. The finish is long and rich. It lingers pleasantly sweet on the palate with notes of vanilla after the spice dissipates.
Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium Whiskey is produced in Tennessee using a combination of corn and rye, and is put through the Lincoln County Process before being aged in new American oak barrels. Currently it’s produced by two local distilleries as the brand’s own whiskey ages. The name honours Nathan Green, who was known as Uncle Nearest to friends and family, and was the first African-American master distiller on record in the USA. It’s from Uncle Nearest that a particular Jack Daniel was taught about distilling was back in the mid-1800s. Nathan ‘Nearest’ Green is undoubtedly a figure who was vitally important to whiskey history.
